Games like Castle Fight and Legion TD 2
Short answer
- Closest to Castle Fight: Slimeball Castle Wars (buildings spawn units, 6v6) and our own Castle Lanes (1v1 and 2v2, three factions).
- Closest to Legion TD: Legion TD 2, the official sequel, and Element TD 2 for classic tower defense.
- Same feeling, different shape: Mechabellum, Minion Masters, Line Tower Wars.
- Want the original? Castle Fight still runs in Warcraft® III. See where to play Castle Fight in 2026.
We make Castle Lanes, and it is on this list, so we are not neutral. We put it in its own section at the end. For all other games we only write what their Steam pages say; prices are US Steam prices on 27 October 2026 and can change.
What makes a game “like Castle Fight”?
Castle Fight and Legion TD were two of most loved custom maps in Warcraft III. Both have the same core: you do not control units in the fight. You prepare an army, and the battle plays on its own. For this list we looked for games with:
- buildings or choices that create an army for you,
- fights that run on their own, without micro,
- a real opponent: another player, a team, or a computer that plays the same game,
- counters: the right answer to what the enemy builds.
The games
Legion TD 2
The sequel to Legion TD, which its Steam page calls the second most popular Warcraft 3 mod of all time. It is made by AutoAttack Games, founded by authors of the original map. You build fighters on your own lane to stop the waves, and you send mercenaries to the enemy. Destroy the enemy king before they destroy yours. Single-player, online PvP and co-op.
Full release 1 October 2021 · $24.99 · Windows, macOS
Closer to tower defense than Castle Fight: your units defend in place, they do not march to the enemy castle.
Slimeball Castle Wars
A 2D 6v6 multiplayer game. Its Steam page says directly that it is “inspired by the Warcraft 3 Castle Fight mod”: structures spawn units all the time, and units march to the enemy base on their own. By solo developer Renno East.
Early Access since 2 October 2026 · $14.99 · Windows · online and LAN PvP, single-player
Element TD 2
Sequel to the Element TD map. You combine elements to make towers, and you can race against other players or work together. Classic tower defense, so less like Castle Fight, but a good pick if you miss Warcraft III TD maps.
Full release 2 April 2021 · $14.99 · Windows · online and LAN PvP and co-op
Mechabellum
A mech auto-battler from Game River. You build your army, set the formation and deploy it, then the battle runs on its own. You can unlock upgrades mid-battle to counter the enemy. The Steam page sums it up as “all strategy, no clickfest”. There are no buildings that spawn units, but the decisions feel very close: read the enemy army and counter it.
Full release 26 September 2024 · $14.99 · Windows, macOS · online PvP and co-op
Minion Masters
A mix of card game and tower defense by BetaDwarf. You build a deck and summon minions in short real-time matches. 1v1 duels, or 2v2 with a friend.
Free to play · Windows, macOS
Line Tower Wars
Its Steam page calls it a standalone take on the classic lane-wars custom map. You build a maze of towers on your lane and send creeps to the other players. Free-for-all for 2 to 12 players, also against bots. More tower defense than Castle Fight.
Released 30 July 2026 · Free to play · Windows, macOS

- Bastionveil (Voltari Studio): a dark-fantasy lane auto-battler on two lanes with barracks that produce units for free and ten heroes. Free to play, coming soon.

Our game: Castle Lanes
Castle Lanes is a 3D builder-autobattler with its own world, factions and art. The game was built heavily inspired by the memories from my childhood in Warcraft III custom games, but it is a separate game with its own rules, names and art. Place buildings on your side of two lanes; each building trains units on a timer, and they march and fight on their own. Every unit has an attack type and an armor type, so most of the game is reading the enemy army and building the answer. When a lane is about to break, call down Castle's Wrath: your castle burns every enemy in a wide circle on your side of the river.
- Three factions: Vanguard, Grove and Ember Host. 52 units and 51 buildings, with upgrades, veteran ranks and banners.
- 1v1 and 2v2 online, or with Easy and Hard computer players in a four-seat lobby. The Hard computer scouts your army and builds what beats it.
- A typical match takes 10 to 15 minutes; after minute 15 sudden death makes sure it ends.
- Native client for Windows and Linux; runs at 60 fps on Steam Deck.
Castle Lanes is in playtest now and the build is free to download. Every unit and building is in the unit database.
